Carmen Picard - Piano (Sr.)
Carmen Picard is a distinguished pianist renowned in Montreal and across Canada, particularly for her expertise in chamber music. A frequent collaborator with celebrated instrumentalists, Picard has worked with numerous prestigious musical ensembles, including the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Sherbrooke, and the Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville. She has also performed at several major summer festivals in Quebec and Canada, such as the Orford Arts Centre, the Camp musical des Laurentides, Domaine Forget, and the Festival of the Sound. These diverse collaborations have taken her to perform in various European countries and the United States.
Currently, Picard is engaged in concert and creation projects with guitarist and composer Andrew McDonald. She has also recently released a new CD with pianist Josée Caron, titled *Espace 21*, featuring “Suites modernes pour piano à quatre mains et deux pianos.”
Picard holds a master's degree in performance from McGill University, where she studied under Dorothy Morton. She further honed her skills with renowned pianists Marc Durand, Jacinthe Couture, Leon Fleisher, John Perry, Thomas Vasàry, and William Pleeth. She also studied with André Laplante in Canada and received an “A” scholarship from the Canada Council for the Arts.
From 1983 to 2016, she taught piano, chamber music, and collaborative piano at Cégep de Drummondville. She also served as a faculty member at the University of Sherbrooke’s School of Music from 2014 to 2022, where she taught piano and chamber music. Throughout her career, she has contributed to choral singing and opera projects, including those associated with the University of Sherbrooke and the *Chœur de Chambre du Québec*, conducted by Robert Ingari.
In addition to her performing and teaching career, Carmen Picard is currently the Executive Director of the Canadian Music Competition, where she channels her passion for music into nurturing emerging Canadian talent and fostering the growth of the next generation of musicians.
